응용언어학과 해사교육을 기반으로 교육·평가, 국제표준 개발, 선원 역량개발 및 다자협력 사업을 수행해 왔습니다. 연구와 교육에서 출발한 결과를 국제지침과 국가 교육체계, 아시아·태평양 지역의 협력사업으로 연결하는 데 중점을 두고 있습니다. Working from applied linguistics and maritime education, I have carried out education and assessment, international standard development, seafarer competency development and multilateral cooperation projects. My focus is on carrying what begins in research and teaching through into international guidelines, national education systems and cooperation programmes across the Asia-Pacific.

소개About

응용언어학에서 해사교육과 국제표준으로From applied linguistics to maritime education and international standards

응용언어학을 기반으로 특수목적영어와 직무 커뮤니케이션을 연구해 왔습니다. 박사과정에서는 인도·필리핀·스리랑카·베트남의 해사분야 종사자들이 참여한 실제 채용면접 40건을 코퍼스로 구축해, 서로 다른 언어와 문화적 배경을 가진 사람들이 영어를 공용어로 사용할 때 나타나는 의사소통을 분석했습니다. My work is grounded in applied linguistics, in English for Specific Purposes and workplace communication. For my doctorate I built a corpus of forty authentic recruitment interviews with maritime professionals from India, the Philippines, Sri Lanka and Vietnam, and analysed what happens in communication when people of different languages and cultural backgrounds use English as their working language.

2015년 한국해양수산연수원에 부임한 이후 연구의 범위를 해사교육, 평가, 국제표준 및 국제협력으로 확장했습니다. 국가 해사영어 교육체계 개발, APEC 선원네트워크(APEC SEN) 설립과 운영, IALA VTS 통신 및 영어능력 평가 국제지침 개발을 거치며 연구 결과를 교육과 정책, 국제표준으로 연결하는 작업을 이어오고 있습니다. Since joining the Korea Institute of Maritime and Fisheries Technology in 2015, that work has widened into maritime education, assessment, international standards and international cooperation: developing Korea's national Maritime English education system, establishing and running the APEC Seafarers' Excellence Network, and developing the IALA guidelines on VTS communication and VTS English competency assessment. The thread running through all of it is carrying research results into teaching, policy and international standards.
